Doctor of the University

The degree of Doctor of the University was conferred on 26 June 2008 in recognition of an outstanding contribution to music.

Raised in Glasgow, Sadenia 'Eddi' Reader started her music career as a session vocalist, working with the Eurythmics and Alison Moyet. With the band Fairground Attraction, she achieved a UK number one with the single Perfect, winning best single and best album at the 1989 Brit Awards. She celebrates 25 years singing professionally, performing with musicians as diverse as Phil Cunningham and Jools Holland. She travels the world performing her own material and songs written by Robert Burns and many other songwriters. She was recently awarded an MBE.
